LDW Highlights

“Quiet Objects” is a group exhibition presented by “THE CURATED Lisbon” in cultural partnership with The Vintage Hotel. It explores contemporary collectible craft as a response to noise, speed, and visual overload in today’s interiors. In a time when design is often driven by spectacle, immediacy, and accelerated trend cycles, “Quiet Objects” proposes an alternative approach: objects and textile works defined by restraint, material intelligence, and lasting presence. These works do not seek attention — they invite closeness, tactility, and a slower form of engagement.

Initiated and developed by THE CURATED Lisbon, the exhibition brings together textile artworks, sculptural objects, and selected functional pieces by Vanessa Barragão, Olga Ermol, Mariana Ralo, João Bruno Videira, and Marta Ramada Leite, whose practices operate at the intersection of craft, design, and art. Rooted in traditional techniques yet contemporary in expression, the works are conceived not as decorative accents, but as integral components of lived space — shaping atmosphere, rhythm, and emotional resonance.

Presented in cultural partnership with The Vintage Hotel, “Quiet Objects” unfolds within the hotel’s lobby, conceived as a mid-century-inspired living room rather than a conventional exhibition setting. This carefully styled interior context allows the works to be experienced as they are meant to be lived with — in dialogue with architecture, light, furniture, and everyday movement. The space demonstrates how collectible craft and textile works can naturally inhabit interiors, quietly shaping the character and mood of a room.

By situating the exhibition within a hospitality environment, “Quiet Objects” intentionally blurs the boundary between exhibition space and lived interior. The Vintage Hotel becomes an active cultural collaborator, offering a setting in which objects are not isolated or staged, but integrated into a coherent, intimate living environment.

Rather than framing craft through nostalgia or heritage alone, “Quiet Objects” presents it as a contemporary language — engaging with current conversations around sustainability, authorship, slowness, and the renewed importance of the human hand in design.

Conceived specifically for Lisbon Design Week, “Quiet Objects” offers a calm yet intellectually grounded destination within the city’s vibrant design programme, inviting visitors to pause, look closely, and experience design through presence rather than spectacle.

The Curated Lisbon presents a curated group exhibition hosted at The Vintage Hotel during Lisbon Design Week, exploring contemporary textile art while supporting local designers and craftsmen working across material-based practices.

The Curated Lisbon is an independent cultural platform dedicated to contemporary art, design, and the creative ecosystem of Lisbon. Through exhibitions, editorial content, and curated experiences, the platform connects artists, designers, craftsmen, and cultural audiences, creating long-term visibility and meaningful cultural exchange.

This group exhibition focuses on textile art as a medium that bridges tradition and contemporary expression. By bringing together local designers and craftsmen, the project highlights the richness of material knowledge, handwork, and experimentation rooted in Portugal’s cultural landscape, while placing it in dialogue with contemporary design and artistic research.

Hosted within The Vintage Hotel, the exhibition transforms the hospitality space into a temporary cultural platform, inviting visitors, professionals, and international guests of Lisbon Design Week to engage with textile works in an intimate and accessible setting. The project reflects a shared belief in the importance of integrating art and design into everyday environments and fostering encounters beyond conventional gallery spaces.

Through this collaboration, The Curated Lisbon and The Vintage Hotel aim to support local creative practices, promote sustainable cultural visibility, and contribute to Lisbon Design Week’s broader conversation on craftsmanship, materiality, and contemporary design.
