Frequently Asked Questions

Lisbon Design Week is a five-day event that celebrates contemporary design and craftsmanship across multiple neighborhoods in the city. Throughout the week, studios, galleries, shops, hotels and cultural institutions open their doors for exhibitions, talks, product launches, open studios, workshops and special events.

What's the story behind LDW?

LDW was born from a simple observation: Lisbon had an incredible design scene, but it was still too invisible. After arriving in the city and noticing both its creative potential and the lack of recognition for local design, the founder of From My City behind the project began speaking with designers, gallerists and people already working to support the sector. Inspired by design festivals such as Clerkenwell Design Week in London, the idea emerged to create a city-wide event that would bring people into the streets, open doors, and generate visibility, connections and opportunities.

When does LDW happen?

Lisbon Design Week takes place once a year, over five days at the end of May. For the upcoming 2026 edition, LDW will run from May 27 to May 31, with selected events and workshops happening in the weeks leading up to the main program.

Where does LDW take place?

Events are spread across several Lisbon neighborhoods, including studios, ateliers, galleries, shops, hotels, architecture offices, pop up spaces and other partner venues. The city itself becomes the main stage, encouraging visitors to walk, explore and discover.

What can I expect from LDW?

You can expect a city-wide program with special solo and collective exhibitions, open studios, product and collection launches, workshops, talks, guided visits and more. Each venue offers something different, from meeting designers and makers to discovering new spaces in Lisbon.

How can I plan my visit?

When the program will be released, start by checking the participating venues and their programs on our website and create your program and save on the digital map. Physical maps will be available at the various participating venues and in other points of interests such as hotels and cafes. Check the events program closer to the event as it is regularly updated. We recommend choosing one or two neighborhoods per day and building your itinerary around them, allowing time to walk between spaces and stop at unexpected places along the way. To assist you, we post itineraries on our instagram. So better to follow us there.

Do you have an app?

No, we don’t, but our website is a progressive web app (PWA) that works like a native app. Through this website you can explore the program, create a personalized agenda, save favorites and access practical information about venues and designers.

Is LDW free to attend?

Access to the city program and most events is free, but some activities organized by other organizations part of our platform may require registration or paid tickets (for example, specific workshops). Details about prices and booking conditions are always indicated in each event’s description. In case of doubt, contact the participating venues.

Do I need to register in advance?

Most exhibitions and open studios can be visited freely during opening hours. Workshops, masterclasses and some talks or guided tours may require prior registration or invitation, so please check the information and contacts provided for each event.

Are all venues open on Sunday?

Although we strongly advise all our venues to be open on Sunday, some of them are not always following it. Therefore, we advise you to always check before you cross the city.

Who is LDW for?

LDW is for both professionals and non-professionals: designers, architects, students, brands, as well as anyone curious about design and the city. All content is presented in a way that welcomes an international audience, with most venues prepared to receive visitors from abroad.

How can designers or venues participate?

Every year LDW launches specific open calls and collaborations with institutions for exhibitions, special projects and young designers. Interested designers and venues can also contact us directly. We then have a selection process and discuss applications with our Advisory Board. Applications for 2026 are now closed. We advise you to start contacting us in September for the next edition.
