This event at Bigger Splash reflects the spirit of the week, highlighting the brand’s creative approach and its strong connection to contemporary design and spatial experience.
Bigger Splash is a gallery–concept store dedicated to promoting, articulating and exploring the intersection between design and contemporary art. Under the creative direction of Joana Pinheiro and David Lopes, it is located in the Anjos neighbourhood, one of Lisbon’s most creative and entrepreneurial areas.
The project was born from the founders’ shared enthusiasm for product design, architecture and contemporary art, as well as from a clear intention to stimulate, support and contribute to the development of these creative industries in Portugal. Drawing inspiration from radical and disruptive moments in the history of design — shaped by social transformations and technological advances, with a clear post-modern inclination — Bigger Splash adopts bold and unconventional approaches that challenge established norms and foster critical thinking, discussion and dialogue.
The project brings together two interdependent commercial strands within a single space: a gallery dedicated to collectible design and contemporary art, and a concept store, both conceived as complementary expressions of a shared curatorial vision. At the intersection of these two formats, Bigger Splash develops an ongoing programme of events — including exhibitions, collection launches, collaborations, talks, film screenings and original publications — produced both in-house and in collaboration with external partners.
In 2024, in a pre-opening context, Bigger Splash hosted a major group exhibition of contemporary art, FIRST STEP, featuring 65 Portuguese and international artists, marking the public launch of the space.
Bigger Splash positions itself not only through its commercial dimension, but also as a platform for innovation, collaboration and cross-disciplinary exchange, bringing together clients, collectors, artists, curators and wider audiences engaged with contemporary design and art practices.
