Thayra was born and raised on the west coast of Africa, Guinea-Bissau, and moved permanently to Europe in 2013.
She studied Design in Lisbon and specialized in Industrial Design.
Her professional career started while she was still studying. She joined creative teams and worked on projects in design studios in Portugal.
She moved to the creative city of Berlin in 2021, where she lived for two years. During that period, she worked between Berlin, Brussels, and Amsterdam, developing products and providing consulting services, especially to startups on materials for new products.
Her origins, cultures, and the cities she has lived in or visited and found inspiring through their architecture, colors, and people are reflected in her work and influence her creations.
Materials are her passion. In her understanding, more than bringing functionality to a piece, choosing the right material gives the piece personality and soul, revealing a unique identity.
All her work is focused on longevity and timelessness. She creates with materials and design in mind that allow her work to stand the test of time, being easy to maintain and preserve. The best example can be seen in her first commercial collection, DJUNTU, launched in June 2024 at 3Days of Design in Copenhagen.
The company is based in Lisbon, so all production is done in local workshops. This decision is driven by the intention to keep the brand human and sustainable.
