LDW Highlights

During Lisbon Design Week 2026, the Tivoli Avenida Liberdade will host an exhibition of tapestries in its lobby, curated by Manufactura de Tapeçarias de Portalegre, celebrating decorative wall tapestries as one of the most significant and distinctive legacies of Portugal’s artistic heritage.

Internationally recognised for their technical and artistic excellence, Portalegre tapestries stand out for their handcrafted process and the close collaboration between artists, designers, and master weavers, transforming each piece into a singular work of art. More than decorative objects, they embody a dialogue between tradition and modernity, bearing witness to a rare craftsmanship that remains alive to this day.

Selected specifically for this space, the tapestries establish a close dialogue with the architecture, scale, and natural light of the lobby, enhancing both the ambience and the visitor’s experience.

This exhibition brings together tapestries based on original works by Menez, Adickes, Eduardo Nery, and Tom Phillips, created using the Manufactura’s distinctive technique and its unique structural characteristics. Each piece is the result of a rigorous and entirely manual process, which preserves the detail, chromatic depth, and spirit of the original design.

With this initiative, the hotel strengthens its position as an active cultural space and an anchor point in the city, open to the local community and committed to promoting artistic heritage, design, and creation.

A true Portuguese landmark, the hotel is also the custodian of an important collection of works by artist Mily Possoz, and has a unique collection. This set of watercolours, tapestries and oils by Mily Possoz remain at the Tivoli and constitute the largest private collection of the artist, a pioneer of Portuguese Modernism.
