LDW Highlights

MUDE will host the Young Design Generation Open Call Exhibition showcasing the work of the 20 finalists.
This year, From My City (FMC), the organising entity of Lisbon Design Week, and MUDE have signed a partnership agreement. This partnership represents a significant milestone in LDW’s mission to bring design closer to the city and its creative communities, while strengthening its position as a platform dedicated to the promotion of contemporary design in Portugal. One of the main focuses of this agreement is the Young Design Generation (YDG) initiative, an open call by LDW aimed at supporting the new generation of designers in Portugal. In 2026, the agreement introduces two new developments: the incorporation into MUDE’s collection of a piece presented through the open call and selected by the jury, as well as the awarding of a mentorship program to one of the participating designers. YDG also benefits from the support of Novobanco — a sponsor of Lisbon Design Week since its inception — which joins this partnership between LDW and MUDE, reinforcing its commitment to encouraging a new generation of creators and entrepreneurs.
Open to participants under the age of 35, this open call celebrates the creativity, experimentation, and diversity of young Portuguese designers or those living in Portugal, giving visibility to projects that reflect the transformations of contemporary design as a cultural, social, and ecological practice. At the same time, the initiative promotes dialogue, critical thinking, and new disciplinary approaches, establishing itself over recent editions as a key platform for discussing the future of design in Portugal.

The exhibition will showcase the works of the 20 finalists, Anita Cen , Baptiste da Silva, Beatriz dos Anjos + Madalena Barros, Bernardo Fernandes, Bruno Dray, Carolina Hermenegildo, Carolina Moreira, Daniel Elkayam, Daniel Sampaio, Gil Monteverde, Inês Santos, José Vieira + Tomás Cruz, Mariana Silva + Margarida Silva + Mariana Gouveia + Afonso Quintela, Íris Ribeiro, Marta Braga + Constança Gonçalves, Marta Magalhães, Moisés Oliveira, Pedro Matos + Mariana Esteves + Bernard Gerber, Sunniva Toppe Tolaas, Tiago Canário.

MUDE - Museu do Design is a public municipal museum in Lisbon dedicated to all expressions of design. Occupying an entire Pombaline block, it has areas for exhibitions, creation, education, debate and leisure, meetings and conversations, developing a programme on the various perspectives of design, in dialogue with other project disciplines and areas of thought, to contribute to the major themes of nowadays. The Museum Collection, which currently has 19 major collections and 5 nuclei (Scene; Graphics; Contemporary Jewellery; Fashion; Product), has been growing, giving priority to the preservation, study and dissemination of design in Portugal, as well as the incorporation of archives resulting from the professional practice of designers or the actions of public entities. This has led to the creation of a Historical Archive in the Museum’s Documentation and Information Centre. The building – an architectural and integrated heritage site - is also seen as a living design archive and a museum content.

As part of Lisbon Design Week, the LDW Young Design Generation Exhibition will be open to the public for free everyday in between May 27-31, 2026.
