My name is Filipa Won, I’m daughter of a Korean father and a Portuguese mother. I grew up in the village of Caramulo and moved to Lisbon in 2002. Although in my unconscious I felt the need to communicate through the colours, a desire to imagine and create, and to break with the which is standard, I did a degree in Economics, this was a field which could give me a good job … with a background in economics, I began my professional activity in the field of numbers.
After the age of forty, I felt the urge to give part of my life to society. Chance brought me closer to Portuguese handicrafts, which took me back to my childhood memories of learning Arraiolos embroidery. Realising that Arraiolos rugs were stuck to the traditional concept, giving them a new lease of life, perhaps this was my path of giving something to society by promoting the culture of the country of my birth.
The first steps were “shy”, but rug after rug, my interpretation of my inner self grew and matured, and today I feel fulfilled to have the opportunity to explore my sensitivity and express it through art.
This life change happened, because I'm a very “daring” dreamer who simply believes in the generosity of life!
