LDW Highlights
The Practice of the Gesture: A Distributed Body.
In the Ajuda neighborhood, the creative practices of Tatiana Ferreira and Mafalda Girão converge on a single street. This collaboration emerges as a "distributed body," unfolding across two neighboring studios to explore the threshold between ceramic forms and metal elements.
This limited collection, comprising two coffee tables and two boxes, approaches the object not as a static ornament, but as a functional site of interaction. Through use and sharing, the pieces invite specific gestures: opening, storing, or gathering. The metal components, designed by Mafalda Girão, act as vital points of contact, joints and handles that mediate the body’s touch with Tatiana Ferreira’s (Pareidólia Design) ceramic surfaces.
The short walk between ateliers reflects the shifting scales of the work, from intimate objects to domestic surfaces. This proximity reinforces a narrative of continuity and the poetic activation of design through human presence.
Mafalda Girão is a contemporary jewelry atelier founded in 2018 as a deeply personal extension of its creator’s inner world and creative practice. More than a studio, it is an intimate, living workspace where each piece begins with an instinct and unfolds through a direct dialogue between hand and material. Raw metal is shaped, refined, and transformed into objects that carry presence, memory, and meaning.
Pareidólia Design, founded by Tatiana Ferreira, is a ceramics studio based at Estúdio Nuba in Ajuda. Dedicated to exploring form, texture, and storytelling, it functions as both a creative workspace and a showroom where craftsmanship and design intersect. Guided by a passion for handmade production, the studio embraces experimentation and material exploration, creating ceramic pieces that balance functionality with artistic expression. It also cultivates a dynamic environment for collaboration, workshops, and events, connecting artists, designers, and the local creative community.
Together, their proximity—geographical and conceptual—creates a natural meeting point. This collaboration emerges from shared values of material sensitivity, thoughtful making, and the desire to create objects that resonate beyond their function.
