Meet the Designer
Graduated in Communication Design from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon, Joana Areal holds also a Master’s degree in Communication Strategies and Art Direction from Elisava, Barcelona. She is a graphic designer, developing and coordinating projects across graphic, editorial, and web design, often intersecting with the fields of fashion and cultural production. Her work is driven by a strong focus on visual narratives and the exploration of communication systems across multiple media. She has collaborated with a range of cultural and commercial clients, including the Musée Yves Saint Laurent Marrakech, Lisboa Fashion Week, and Area Store, among many other projects. Her work often involves the creation of visual identities, editorial systems, and exhibition communication. Alongside her professional activity, she teaches in the field of design, dividing her time between studio practice and education, with each informing and enriching the other. Her work has been published internationally by publishers and magazines such as Victionary, Laurence King, Rockport, Design2context, Design and Design, Sandu Publishing, Index Book, Wallpaper*, Novum, NEO2, and Slanted Magazine, among others.
