Witold Riedel

Artist/Designer
Witold Riedel (1969- ) is a multidisciplinary German artist, born in Poland.

After studying fine art at the Hochschule für Gestaltung (HfG) in Offenbach am Main, Germany, Riedel worked in television and designed for music. During his decades in New York and London he had a career in advertising as a Global Creative Director working for some of the largest sustainable companies in the world. A decade ago he and his partner Hannah Vicary launched a global consultancy that helps clients become more sustainable and more famous. Among them are UNICEF, Siemens AG and Apple.

In his fine art practice Riedel explores patterns of transience, growth and the interconnectedness of everything.

Much of his work appears like results from a balance achieved under adverse circumstances. He is fascinated by how nature and everything we create either adapts or breaks. Including us. Riedel draws, paints, photographs, creates ceramics and writes.

Riedel uses often unusual materials like pollution or aged inks. His ceramics are often fired many times using different methods. His teacher is Kyoto based Raku Master Kyoshitsu Sasaki

Riedel’s thinking and methods link him to art’s ancient purpose and to thinking systems like Daoism and Cosmotechnics.

Witold Riedel is the recipient of the 2020/21 Arte Laguna Prize for painting and other international awards. His work is exhibited and collected worldwide.
He works and lives in Lisbon.
